When easing the backstay, the flicker lifts it up to allow for free passage of a full roach mainsail when tacking and gybing. Sturdy set for shelving. However dimensions are misleading. Not sure if they sent the incorrect size but the vertical distance between shelves was 11” and that’s without the shelving installed
